We'll bounce back: Shariwa

MUTARE - Mutare City Rovers coach Taku Shariwa says his side will put behind last weekend’s thrashing against CAPS United when they take on Bulawayo City in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Barbourfields Stadium today.

Rovers’ survival battle suffered a huge blow last weekend when they were walloped 4-1 by Makepekepe following a nightmarish afternoon by goalkeeper Victor Twaliki.

That defeat only came 24 hours after the side were docked three points by the Premier Soccer League for using suspended striker Kudakwashe Gurure in a match against FC Platinum.

Magusha also have an axe to grind with Bulawayo City after losing 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Sakubva Stadium earlier this season.

“We are confident of taking all three points and restore the team back on its trajectory out of the relegation zone. We will avenge the loss we suffered at home in their backyard,” Shariwa said.

Bulawayo City’s Mkhululi Moyo scored the only goal of the match in that previous meeting after Magusha failed to deal with a long throw-in into their box.

Shariwa believes his side conceded a “silly goal” that afternoon and they have cured those frailties at the back.

“We are now a completely different team to the one that faced Bulawayo City earlier in the season and we are not reading much into our loss to CAPS United,” he said.

“We lost mainly because of goalkeeping blunders but we are encouraged that we continue to find the back of the net.

The defeat to Makepekepe interrupted a Cinderella story for the relegation-threatened side as they had vastly improved since the halfway stage of the season.

Before last weekend, Magusha had gone six games without a loss as they greatly improved their survival hopes.
