Chibuku Super Cup returns

HARARE - The country’s biggest knockout tournament will return this month when the third edition of the Chibuku Super Cup is launched in Harare next week. 

The tournament, which is being sponsored by Delta Beverages, will see all the 16 Castle Premier League teams participate for the ultimate price.

The Premier Soccer League yesterday said participating clubs will be fixtured as per the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 15 log standings during Monday’s draw.

The Chibuku Super Cup first round matches are scheduled for the weekend of September 16-18 with the quarter-finals set for September 30 and October 2 2016.

Semi-finals will held during the weekend of October 21-23 while the final will be played on November 5.

The top eight clubs shall be seeded and automatically positioned according to their standings while the bottom eight teams will be fixtured against the seeded teams by drawing of lots.

Matchday 15 log standings had FC Platinum at the top followed by Highlanders, CAPS United, Dynamos, ZPC Kariba, Triangle, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Harare City to complete the list of seeded teams.

Harare City are the defending champions of the Chibuku Super Cup after beating Dynamos 2-1 in last finals at the National Sports Stadium.

The Sunshine Boys went on to represent the country in the Caf Confederations Cup where they were knocked out in the first round by Zambian side Zanaco.

In addition for a ticket to represent the country at the Confederation Cup, Harare City pocketed $75 000 winners’ cheque while Dynamos went home $50 000 richer.
