Murwira over the moon

HARARE - Dynamos full back Godknows Murwira says his call-up to the provisional Warriors squad that will face Guinea in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next week is a result of hard work.

Murwira was drafted into the squad as a cover for suspended CAPS United right back Hardlife Zvirekwi, after accumulating three yellow cards, but will fight for a starting place with Maritzburg United new-signing Blessing Moyo.

The Warriors, who have already sealed their place at the 2017 Afcon final to be held in Gabon, will travel to Conakry for a date against the Syli Nationale on September 3, hoping to end their fairy-tale campaign on a high note.

Murwira, who has been one of the most consistent players for the Glamour Boys in a season they look average, said the call-up was a challenge to him to work even harder so as to maintain the form that caught Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa’s eye.

“It is indeed a great honour to be called to the national team and I am very excited. It’s been my goal to work hard and push my career further and getting this call up means so much to me,” Murwira told the Daily News.

“It is a challenge to work harder because I have to maintain the same level of form. It has been a product of hard work, determination and above all the support I have received from my coaches and my teammates.”

Players are expected to start trooping in for camp on Sunday with preparations set to start on Monday ahead of the trip to Guinea.
