Moyo threatens EU ambassador

HARARE - Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo has threatened “to deal politically” with European Union (EU) Ambassador to Zimbabwe Philippe Van Damme, accusing him of using the social networking site to “play politics against Zanu PF”.

Van Damme has been very vocal on Zimbabwe’s political and economic situation.

The two exchanged rants on Twitter after one user raised issues to do with the presidential insult law.

“Now shamelessly and repeatedly ‘liking’ insults in violation of decency!” Van Damme said in a Tweet, which did not go down well with Moyo.

As the conversation and debates went on, Moyo said, “Yes, Ambassador. If you continue using Twitter to play politics against Zanu PF we will deal with you politically!”

He further attacked Van Damme, “If you want decency stick to your remit in terms of the Vienna Convention. Keep away from local politics Ambassador!”

Van Damme has been speaking out on the country’s situation and the need to transform laws and policies in a manner that can help lure investors.

He has in the past called on Zimbabwe to come up with sound policies and restore the rule of law if it is to attract any foreign direct investment.

Zimbabwe has been accused of failing to observe people’s rights and applying policies that are unfavourable in attracting foreign investors.

Among some of the policies that have been criticised by foreign countries, is Zimbabwe’s indigenisation policy — compelling foreigners to cede 51 percent of their shareholdings to black locals.

In the early 2000s, Zimbabwe also embarked on a controversial land reform programme that resulted in many white farmers losing their farms to local black people.

The manner in which the process was carried out resulted in Zimbabwe’s relations with other nations, including EU member states, turning frosty.

The EU imposed economic sanctions on the Zimbabwean government, an embargo that still stands until today.

that ugly neanderthall (Jonathan Moyo) needs to just shut up. targetting an EU ambassador showing concern how Moyo and his crew led by evil Mugabe has heralded for the once prosperous nation shows he has run out of ideas and is playing a desperate blame game. Armchair wordsmithing is not going to bring food on the table for hungry Zimbabweans comrade jonathan. neither will blaming foreign governments whose patronage is the only way to resolve the situation. your government comrade is hopelessly out of its depth and out of ideas. just go now!

raba - 2 August 2016

@roba you refer to moyo as comrade, no. He's a deserter, a pretender. He is one of those the real comrades now refer to as mr, incl his president.

Vana Jonatan every body you just threaten them for no reason. This is what a fake Professor does. You see we once saw you arguing with your own student Learnmore Jongwe on national television . Though you killed him he was better than you by far.You are really blank no wonder why our economy is not recovering. If you can go down to a level to support someone who is supported by Chinotimba then you are real idiot.

JM is on a par with Grace when it comes to stirring nonsense and dividing people in ZANU PF. Think about his dishonest background and the time he jumped ship - he has few, if any, who really trust him. Makes many of us wonder where his true loyalties really lie?

Mbewa - 2 August 2016

Is this Jonathan Moyo a Minister at large who is custodian of Zanu PF moral compass, or lack of??? The guy seems to think he is the supreme law and anyone who voices anything against Zanu must face his wrath. It appears he is an idiot who thinks that he is the only one entitled to an opinion on virtually anything that concerns Zanu PF. Grow up you stupid idiot. Sme people have brains too. And in most cases better than you by far. We are tired of your rabid outbursts at any criticism aimed at Zanu PF.

In all my life l have never come across a man so singularly self-centred,so bullish ,so proud. However, the same man is politically naked covered only with drying leaves.

Zanu-PF ( Mugabe and his cronies in the likes of Jona and others) know very well that nobody in Zimbabwe , i.e. no Zimbabwean, has the guts to hold them accountable for ransacking our country. Their only worry comes when they perceive (right or wrong) foreigners speaking on behalf of us timid Zimbos. If you see Jona jumping into the fray it means their party sees a credible force that can help send them packing. My greatest concern as always is that where are we ( especially referring to thousands of graduates chunned out of colleges every year) to effect change for the good for our country. The difference between a college graduate and ambuya vangu vari paruzevha is that the graduate is enlightened and should be in a position to say NO, THAT CAN NOT HAPPEN TO US, WE DON`T DISSERVE THIS. The problem of taking a back seat and letting foreigners do the dirty work for us is when the task completed we cannot claim patent for the product. No foreigner works for nothing. Its no-brainer, neither is it smart, to expect help from foreigners to get rid of the rot Zanu-PF has brought to our country. We put them in power, we have to deal with them ourselves and see them packing.

Fast, bright, furious and happening!

What did you folks expect? With criticism popping every where and future increasing uncertain, the well known "mbwende" are lashing out at everyone, real and imagined enemies. The days when ZANU PF could silence people by intimidation are over. Zimbabweans have had enough of misrule!
