Ballet Bouquet lights up Harare

HARARE - Ballet Bouquet, which was directed by Cape Town City Ballet artistic director Robin van Wyk with help from local dance teacher Carol Henchie, left the audience mesmerised over the weekend at Reps Theatre.

The show was a collaboration between Dance Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) and the Cape Town City Ballet (CTCB) which featured 112 local dancers and four professional South African dancers.

The fluid and well-choreographed movements and swan-like dance moves took the fans back into time. The dancers performed the Nutcracker which is a Christmas show, Flower Festival, Waltz of the Hours and several others.

What left several people in awe were the cabrioles which require a physically fit person to execute them. The four professional dancers from Cape Town were masters of this move, with the males showcasing their amazing upper body strength. The female professional dancers did not disappoint, in their beautiful ballet tutus.

The classical ballet performance could not have been complete without a Swan lake dance which was skillfully executed by DTZ dancers as the last part of the show.

Various young dancers from different dance schools in Zimbabwe got an opportunity to work with professionals over four months as Ballet Bouquet prepared for the show.

The dancers and costumes varied from Chinese, Ice Fairies, bonbons, mirletons, party children, Russians and seniors.
