Rujeko dominate Copa Dream Team

HARARE - Newly crowned Copa Coca-Cola champions Rujeko High School provided the highest number of players to this year’s 20-member Dream Team.

The outstanding players selected into the Dream Team will attend the Copa Coca-Cola regional camp to be held in South Africa later this year.

The Mash Central School, who won their maiden title at the weekend in Gwanda, provided six players in Player of the Tournament Panashe Mapuranga, who was also voted the best defender of the tournament, Desmond Gidion, Maclean Chidabvu, Malvin Magwaza, Tatenda Jamu and Tadiwanashe Magobo.

The six players were instrumental in leading Rujeko to Copa Coca-Cola national title after defeating Chinhoyi High 4-1 on penalties after their final had ended goalless in regulation time at Pelandaba Stadium.

It was a sweet victory for Rujeko after they had agonisingly lost last year’s national final 4-3 on penalties to Dewure in Bulawayo.

Dewure, who were knocked out by Chinhoyi in the semi-finals after a penalty shoot, provided four players to the Dream team in midfielder Munyaradzi Matore, Lee Funodamoto, Edward Machinya and Malfbaling Munashi.

Pre-tournament favourites Chemhanza contributed four players in midfielders Tafadzwa Musamba, Ronald Master and Kelvin Chikomba.

Churchill Boys High, who were knocked out in the group stages had striker Munashe Pini making it into the team

Losing finalists Chinhoyi provided two players while Mzingwane, hosts Gwanda and Tohwe had a player each in the squad.

In the girls’ category, champions Chidyamakono, who won the title for a record fourth time in a row had five players in the Dream Team.

Losing finalists Magwegwe also had five players making their way into the Dream Team. The girls’ team will represent the country at the Cosasa games to be held in Botswana.
