It's Mhere vs Mhere

HARARE - This Year’s edition of the Midlands Music Awards (MMA) have pitted award-winning musician Mathias Mhere against his brother Daniel in the Best Traditional Gospel Music category.

Mathias, who walked away with the Best Gospel Music Award and Best Album of the year in 2015, has been nominated for his album Double Double while elder brother Daniel has been considered for the gong on the strength of his debut album titled Heavy Rain.

The Mhere brothers will battle it out against Albert Chawa Israel (Hwamanda), Knowledge Khanye and Psalmville Voices (Ishe Wemadzishe) and Attalia Parehwa (Anenyasha).

Award-winning Mathias told the Daily News that it was a special honour for the Mhere family to be nominated in the same category.

“It feels great to be nominated alongside my brother in the same category. Not many families are accorded this kind of honour.

“Whether we win or not doesn’t matter. Just being nominated makes the two of us feel very special,” said the Double Double singer.

Despite being in competition with his brother, the Gutu-born Mhere is confident that he will retain the Best Traditional Gospel Music Award.

“I am very confident but if I happen to lose to my brother I will accept it graciously. My brother’s debut album is very good. That is why he is getting a lot of recognition.

“He will be performing at the Apostolic Family Mission (AFM) Conference that will tack place from August 5 to 7 in Masvingo Province,” he said. Below are the Midlands Music Awards nominations:
