DeMbare hunt for Mbara's replacement

HARARE - Dynamos have identified Ngezi Platinum Stars centre back Liberty Chakoroma as a replacement for former captain Augustine Mbara.

The Glamour Boys were left severely depleted of centre back options after they allowed Mbara’s contract to run last month paving the way for a his free transfer to newly promoted South African side Highlands Park.

Following Mbara’s exit, coach Lloyd Mutasa was left with only two centre halves in Sydney Linyama and Elisha Muroiwa.

However, Muroiwa has not played for the Glamour Boys since the 2-0 defeat to Highlanders at the end of May due to injury.

Since Mbara’s move to South Africa, Mutasa has been forced to partner Linyama with fullback Obey Mwerahari at centre back.

Although the Linyama-Mwerahari partnership has been solid with DeMbare conceding only one goal in seven matches, the lack of central defensive options is a cause of concern for the Mutasa.

The Daily News sources say the club is now looking at options of signing Chakoroma from the Premiership debutants, who are punching above their weight in their maiden season in the top flight.

The platinum miners are currently in seven place on the log with and are envisaging a top eight finish which means they would want to hold on to all their best players including Chakoroma.

Dynamos will find it hard pricing away the former Free State Stars centre back from Ngezi but the club remains hopeful.

Chakoroma trained with DeMbare at the start of the year upon his return from Mzansi and featured in a number of pre-season friendly matches.

The Harare giants failed to reach an agreement with the former Buffaloes defender, who ended up joining Ngezi.

In the event DeMbare fail to land Chakoroma, the club might be forced to sign Harare City captain Themba Ndlovu.

The centre back was part of the Dynamos squad that won the 2014 championship before joining City.

However, Ndlovu has fallen out of favour at the Sunshine Boys since the arrival of Moses Chunga.

Ndlovu just like star midfielder Raphael Manuvire, has rarely featured since Chunga replaced Taurai Mangwiro last month.

The defender is now eyeing a move away from City and Dynamos are very much aware of his intentions to rejoin.

Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro denied the Glamour Boys’ interest in the two players.

“We are looking for quality players to replace Mbara but at the moment those two players you have mentioned are not on our wish list,” Chihoro said.

“Chakoroma is contracted with Ngezi and we are not interested in bringing Themba back. At this point if we do not find the quality replacements we are looking for then we will rather look at promoting some of our junior players.”
