MDC activists freed on bail

CHIPINGE - Two MDC activists arrested during last Wednesday’s skirmishes during the nationwide protests have been freed on $200 bail each.

MDC Chipinge youth chairperson Tendai Mahari and his organizing secretary Itai Marema were remanded to July 18 by magistrate Poterai Gwezhira.

They are being charged with incitement of violence in contravention of section 187 of the Criminal Law  (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 36 (1a) of the same act.

They will be reporting to police every Friday and are not to interfere with state witness as well as continue residing at their given addresses.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights’ Tariro Tazvitya is representing them.

The duo is being implicated in mass demonstrations that rocked Chipinge and which forced police to use tear gas to clear the central business district.
