Chibuku Neshamwari comes to Kadoma

HARARE - Tomorrow ,Kadoma’s Railton Club will host the Mashonaland West leg of Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance competition that will feature 10 groups.

The Mashonaland West competition will conclude the provincial finals of Zimbabwe’s most prestigious traditional dance competition.

Dance groups that will compete in tomorrow’s contest are  Rimuka Stars (Zambia Nyau or Gure), Tsitsa Mwana (Zambia Nyau or Gure), Chabvondoka (Zambia Nyau or Gure), Kadoma Mbira, Chegutu (Malawi Gure), Musundasora Mbira, Nharira Mbira, Mucheka Wakasunga Beta (Ben Arinoti), Pisa Pisa (Zambia Nyau) and Chegutu Chimtali (Chimtali).

The winning group will pocket $500 as well as earn the right to represent Mashonaland West at the national Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Competition to be hosted by Bulawayo on July 30 at White City Stadium.

Winners of the national competition will pocket $4 000 while the second-placed group will walk away with $3 000. The second runner-up will take home $2 000.

Founded in 1963, the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival is a tripartite partnership involving the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages.

Provincial winners who will participate at the national finals include Harare’s Maramuro Agure (Malawi Nyau), Kalawi Nyau from Mashonaland Central, Acturus Beni Arinoti from Mashonaland East, Redwing Mine Bheni Arinoti (Manicaland) and Pezhuba Pachena (Matabeleland North).

Last year, the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance National Competition was won by Mashonaland East’s Makarekare Traditional Dance Troop. In 2014 Ngoma Dzepasi, a dance group from the same province, came tops in the competition.
