Mujuru takes 2018 campaign to Mutare

HARARE - Leader of the Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) Joice Mujuru is taking her 2018 election campaign to the eastern border city of Mutare this week.

Mujuru’s spokesperson Gift Nyandoro told the Daily News yesterday that Mujuru and her  party will this Saturday descend on Sakubva Stadium to address a maiden star rally there.

“This is a significant rally by the ZPF president because it will go a long way in reassuring Zimbabweans that Zanu PF now only exists in name but not in reality,” Nyandoro said.

In the past, Zanu PF enjoyed control of Manicaland with its former secretary for administration, Didymus Mutasa — now with the ZPF — making it a no-go area for the opposition.

But Nyandoro said the fact that they now have Mutasa, a former political godfather of the province in their ranks, tables had now turned.

“The rally will prove to all the doubting Thomases that Mujuru and the party enjoy support the length and breadth of the country and that Zanu PF has every reason to panic.

“We have depth in terms of our leadership and with Rugare Gumbo, a former member of Dare ReChimurenga within our ranks, Zanu PF knows it’s not business as usual,” he added.

Mujuru along with Mutasa, Gumbo and other former Zanu PF stalwarts were expelled from the ruling party for allegedly plotting to topple Mugabe in 2014.

Nyandoro said Mujuru is expected to pull a bumper crowd.

He said Zanu PF’s “days are numbered”.

“The president has proven beyond any doubt that she is the country’s future and that she is the only one with  practical solutions to pluck the country out of the social, political and economic abyss it finds itself in.”

Mujuru, who has previously held rallies in Bulawayo, Masvingo and Harare and pulled significant crowds, is expected to head to Mashonaland East Province after Manicaland.

From there, insiders say she will address another rally in her home province of Mashonaland Central at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura.
