Sables recall Dinha

HARARE - Zimbabwe has recalled eighthman Costa Dinha out of international retirement for today’s crucial Africa Cup Group 1A Test match against Kenya set for the Police Grounds at Morris Depot.

The match kicks off at 3:30pm.

The Old Hararians veteran had called time on his Sables career in 2014 to concentrate on club rugby.

But injuries to a host of key personnel as well as absenteeism by other influential players called into camp has forced the Sables technical team to reach out to the yesteryear trusted lieutenant.

The 38-year-old Dinha has been thrown straight into the starting XV as he will form the loose trio at the back of the Sables scrum together with flanks Jaques Leitao and Biselle Tshamala against the Simbas this afternoon.

The rest of the Zimbabwe pack is made up of locks Fortune Chipendo and Tapfuma Parirenyatwa while in the front row captain Denford Mutamangira will start at tight head prop with Royal Mwale at hooker and Lawrence Cleminson at loose head.

Sables coach Cyprian Mandenge has gone for the half-back pairing of Charles Jiji at scrum-half and Lenience Tambwera at fly-half.

Boyd Rouse will start at first centre while Gavin Nyawata comes in at second centre.

Fullback Tangai Nemadire together with wings Manasa Sita and Stephan Hunduza complete the backline.

A number of players are in line to make their Sables debuts after they were named on the bench.

Replacements Ernest Mudzengerere, David Makanda, Tolerance Zishe, Irvin Nduwa, Witness Mandizha and Joshua Gando will earn their first caps in the green and white hoops if they are called into action.

Meanwhile, the Simbas will give lock Eric Kerre his first cap after he was named in the starting XV for today’s match.

Kerre will be of a young second row combination that features his club teammate at the Impala Saracens in 20-year-old Simon Muniafu.

There was no place for a former Kenya Sevens captain Innocent “Namcos” Simiyu in the Simbas starting Xv as he was named on the bench.

Simuyu was inured way back in 2011 while in action for his club side and has slowly worked his way back to full fitness.
