Play cancelled over strike

HARARE - Theatre in the Park yesterday cancelled a Untikolotshi play which was supposed to run until Friday.

It was written by Nonhlalo Dube during British Council and Royal Court Playwriting programme in 2014 and is directed by Styx Mhlanga.

“We regret to inform you that Untikolotshi play from Bulawayo which was supposed to be staged at Theatre in The Park has been shelved due to current wave of protests and threat of the strike.

“Theatre in The Park and Theatre for Everyone will update you once the new dates have been set,” said Rooftop Promotions’ media and information officer, Robert Tapfumaneyi.

This was supposed to be the second performance of Untikolotshi after it premiered at the National Gallery in April.

Untikolotshi which means the goblin is a story of a young girl who has a baby and refuses to name his father. She gets miserable as the goblin continues to threaten and abuse her. She finally confesses who the father of the baby is and her father takes drastic action to deal with the goblin.
