Fans warm up to Mutodi music

HARARE - An overwhelming response that musician Energy “Musoro Wembada” Mutodi received at City Sports Bar’s Jam Session on Monday has left the flamboyant artiste in a dilemma — to concentrate full time on music or to just treat it as a pass time.

Mutodi performed at the weekly event backed by his Mutodi Stars group which comprises Innocent Mjintu and Utakataka Express members Shiga Shiga and Spencer Khumulani among others and the fully-packed Harare joint warmed up to his music.

“I am now in a dilemma seriously. The show was good and even comments were positive. I was no longer interested in music mainly due to negative comments.

“Fans are requesting us to stage at least a concert in Harare per month yet I am now tied up with school assignments as I am studying at the University of Cape Town and at the University of Zimbabwe concurrently,” said the Chigorodanda singer.

At the Jam Session, an event where artistes from different genres are offered an opportunity to briefly showcase, Mutodi performed songs such as Rurerure and Keresi off his latest and 12th album Mupedzanhamo among others much to the delight of fans.

He shared the stage with a number of artistes, including traditional group Dzanambira, reggae artiste Royal Kezzie, Ngoni Kambarami and dendera musician Allan Chimbetu among others.

Apart from singing, Mutodi is also into politics and an academic, who has authored several Geography textbooks used in high schools in Zimbabwe and some Commonwealth countries and he is a researcher in financial markets and economics.
