DeMbare consider Mutasa's future

HARARE - Dynamos president Kenni Mubaiwa yesterday said the club will meet this week to decide on whether to assign coach Lloyd Mutasa on permanent basis or look elsewhere.

Mutasa was appointed interim coach, after the sacking of Portuguese Paulo Jorge Silva after only five league games.

The Portuguese was relieved of his duties after managing a paltry five points from a possible 15 securing only one win against Mutare City Rovers and two draws against Hwange and Triangle.

Mutasa was given five matches to prove his mettle from which he managed nine out of possible15 having lost twice against FC Platinum and Highlanders while beating Tsholotsho, Chapungu and Ngezi Platinum Stars.

“We are yet to meet to see where we are going as a team. We will sit down as the executive sometime this week to discuss his (Mutasa) position,” Mubaiwa told Daily News yesterday.

“I think the team has performed fairly well. The team is winning but the decision can only be made after the meeting this week.”

Mubaiwa also cleared the air regarding team captain Augustine Mbara and defender Elisha Muroiwa whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the month. There were reports that the two players could be on their way out after the Glamour Boys failed to negotiate contract extension on time.

“As far as I am concerned everything is okay regarding the two players. We still want the players and efforts to extend their contracts are at an advanced stage,” Mubaiwa added.

“Things were only made difficult following the death of our fans last weekend. We are hoping to conclude everything by end of this week. These are important players for us and we will do everything to ensure we extend their contracts.”

However, contrary to Mubaiwa’s comments Mbara’s manager Gibson Mahachi yesterday said they were still waiting for Dynamos to begin negotiations.

“We are waiting for communication from Dynamos,” Mahachi said.

“They are fully aware that his contract comes to an end this month. So far there is nothing and if they don’t come to us by end of the month we will be left with no option.”

Dynamos beat Ngezi Platinum at Rufaro Stadium to move to eighth place on the log table. Mbara and Roderick Mutuma were on target to ensure a fourth win of the season for the Glamour Boys.
