Kunaka a rehab escapee: ZPF

HARARE - Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party has said Jim Kunaka cut short the counselling programmes he was going through in ZPF and has gone back to his old ways, a top official in former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s party has said.

Commenting on Kunaka’s highly publicised return to Zanu PF, ZPF spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire, said: “The fact of the matter is that Mr Jim Kunaka was undergoing rehabilitation and if he has returned to Zanu PF, it means he is now a rehab escapee.”

Mawarire said that the process of rehabilitating ex-Zanu PF youths, who were used by the party to perpetrate violence, was a voluntary programme that ZPF has put in place to help both victims of political violence and the perpetrators that they find ways of being reintegrated into the society.

“Our rehabilitation programmes are voluntary. It is therefore unconstitutional and also undemocratic for us to arrest Kunaka and force him to continue with the rehabilitation programme we had designed for him.

“It is quite clear to us that the better person, the non-violent character that we wanted to inculcate in him has no place and value in the cult that he is returning to.

“We will continue to raise our heads high for the efforts that we made in attempting to exorcise the Zanu PF demons that were haunting him but we are cognisant that it is not every battle that you can win and that not every deliverance session is successful especially when the one seeking deliverance is still in love with his demons,” Mawarire said, adding that the rehabilitation programme was a brain-child of Mujuru.

“Our president is on record saying that ZPF has a department, manned by experienced clergymen, which provides counselling services to both victims of political violence and its perpetrators so that they can be reintegrated back into the society and, perhaps, mainstream politics,” he said, also explaining that Kunaka’s return to Zanu PF does not only show that ZPF had failed to rehabilitate him, but that the party had strong systems against infiltration.

“The other fact that has escaped a lot of people is that the return of people like Kunaka to Zanu PF is a result of their frustration with the strict security measures we have put around the decision-making organs of the party which have made it difficult for spies and Zanu PF informers to gain entry into those organs that run the day-to-day activities of the party.

“The noise they are now making and the purported return to Zanu PF is a result of the frustration they now have as a result of their failure to infiltrate the decision-making organs of the party.

“When we hear them cry loud as Kunaka is doing, we naturally become happy as it is an endorsement of the effectiveness of our security and intelligence systems in the party,” Mawarire said.

He added that allegations by Kunaka that there is nothing happening in ZPF were an indication that he was far away from the decision making process in the party.

“There are strategic decisions and programmes taken by the party leadership that, for security reasons, cannot be communicated to every party member, let alone those undergoing rehabilitation but that does not mean there is nothing happening in the party.

“If there is nothing happening in ZPF as Kunaka is quoted as saying, there is certainly one thing that he should acknowledge and it is that we have set up a diligent and effective security system that does not just allow spies easy access to those organs of the party responsible for our strategic planning,” Mawarire said.

Jim Kunaka or whatever his true name is, the fact is that his true action are what he did may even tell a bigger story of all those who were once ZANU PF but left it due to some disgruntlement. Their fight with ZANU PF and immediate reconciliation pains a very bleak picture of ZFP for those who formed it and joined it later. ZFP is a involuntary product of a fight within ZANU PF, which may be to some of us may be cosmetic or even a CIO ploy to derail true democracy and true carders from their quest of total freedom. There has been much ado over opposition political part coalition. One may imagine what will happen to that coalition if a night before registration Joice Mujuru returns to ZANU PF. Jonathan Moyo was elected as an independent, and MDC withdrew its candidate so that they had treated him as one of them. In no time he was back in ZANU PF fold.

Is he rehabilitated himself? Is this the same zanu operator Jealosu Mawarire who through a court challenge caused the dissolution of GNU and forced elections in 2013 as Zanu was being confronted to agree on electoral reforms as per new constitution? ZPF will have to contest under the same hostile environment. If it was a genuine opposition it should be concerned about this. But then they are banking on being successful in causing confusion in 2018 like MKD did in 2008 and going back to zanu.

Thanks very much for the efforts that are being made by People First Party in trying to rehabilitate the young men who committed horrible crimes against their fellow citizens. This young man was corrupted by the doctrine of violence, hatrad and murder. The only suitable remedy for him is his removal from society and make sure that he stays for a longer time in a place like prison, apart from this, time is being merely wasted for nothing.Anyhow, hope this time is likely to behave himself, may be he learnt something positive during his brief period of stay with People First before returning to the Zanu pf fold,

Even Lealous Mawarire needs exorcism because he was responsible for the untimely death of the Inclusive government which had brought a lot of relief to the ordinary Zimbabwean when he challenged both Morgan and Bob to carry out elections prematurely in 2013. Tell me Jealous, what sought of demons had possessed you?

Very interesting to note that ZimPF is rehabilitating "lost souls" or "demon infested vampires from Zanu PF". My quuestion: are these malcontents being encouraged to publicly apologiise to the victims first? If not, why? Could this be why these guys expect most of their sympathisers to come from Zanu PF? Very silly strategy, if you ask me. You don't form a party an limit your catchment areas unless reform is fake.

The problems Zimbabwe is facing are not to do with rehabilitating Kunaka. Zimbabwe needs a holistic approach to poverty, corruption, unemployment, violence against one another, food and drug shortages. There is need to make ministers account for their lazines yet they enjoy the most delicious piece of the national cake. We need to revamp agriculture, industries, exports and reduce unnecessary imports. Let s have a culture of loving our country and consume locally manufactured goods. Let's attract FDIs, promote SMEs and empower women and youths with income generating projects. If there is opposition let us not take opposition to be enemies , lets engage each other , take their ideas and consider them seriously. Look back to the period of the GNU. That period proved beyond doubt that Unity of purpose is key. Unlike the current scenario where the hard headed are taking us into oblivion.
