Mujuru 'exposes' Zanu PF poll plot

HARARE - Former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party, whose leading lights have intimate knowledge of President Robert Mugabe’s governing Zanu PF, says today’s million-man march by the former liberation movement is a “kick-start” of its rigging strategy for the 2018 national elections.

Speaking ahead of the controversial Zanu PF demonstration in Harare today, ZPF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said yesterday that the march was also intended to hoodwink the world to believe that Mugabe still had the support of the majority of Zimbabweans, notwithstanding the country’s dire state.

Mujuru, Gumbo and dozens of ZPF’s other bigwigs are former Zanu PF stalwarts who were hounded out of the ruling party in 2014 on untested allegations of plotting to oust and assassinate Mugabe.

Gumbo warned Zimbabweans that Zanu PF, through today’s march, was kick-starting both its campaign and rigging machinations for the country’s eagerly-anticipated next national polls that are a mere two years away.

“The march is being used as a tool to kick-start the campaign for the 2018 national elections that are slipping out of the ruling party’s grip.

“It is intended to shore up support for a decaying party and government that has misruled the country for the past 36 years and has brought untold suffering to the people of Zimbabwe,” the former Zanu PF spokesperson said.

The march, a brainchild of Zanu PF youths aligned to the party’s Generation 40 camp (G40), has since been embraced grudgingly by the faction loyal to embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa — apparently after Mugabe arm-twisted dissenting war veterans to take part in it.

Gumbo said Zimbabwe was in an “abyss of despair, yet the corrupt and inept” Zanu PF wanted to portray a rosy picture to long-suffering citizens and the outside world.

“The march is also about creating an impression to the outside world that Zanu PF and its government are not short of ideas on how to resuscitate an economy that is already on life support, and that they should be trusted and supported.

“Above all, the march intends to provide a platform for the nonagenarian leader to hoodwink his people into believing that finally there is light at the end of the tunnel for a country that is already in the abyss of despair.

“By the wildest stretch of imagination, the march is not voluntary but coerced. It’s all about them and their parochial and egoistic interests. The poor and cash-strapped businesses are being forced to donate vehicles and funds for fuel and food,” Gumbo said, urging people to boycott the “worthless partisan political gimmick”.

He also reiterated claims that have been made by other opposition political parties that Zanu PF was abusing traditional leaders to force people to comply with the party’s demands.

“Traditional chiefs are forced to ensure their subjects’ participation as well as contribution to the march in cash or in kind. In return, the chiefs are promised more authority over their subjects and other State benefits.

“Both supporters and non-supporters of Zanu PF are forced to participate even if intimidation and violence have to be used.

“If they (the organisers) had grown up in the sixties and seventies and had been called upon to serve the (Ian) Smith regime to frustrate the struggle, they would have gladly organised a five million-man march in support of the iniquitous regime,” Gumbo also charged.

Unfortunately for Zanu PF the march failed dramatically. I can see Mugabe calling for another march and this it will be organised by the main wing of the party. Instead of just youths they ended up rounding anybody forcing them to board buses or trucks in the early hours of the morning. You could see that some of the people were dressed for the event as it was very cold on Africa Day esp. in the early hours of the morning. In Japan Mugabe said my people love me and this was meant to prove to the Japanese that his people love him.

Even very closest friends can be worst enemies to the extend of even killing each other. So there is nothing wrong about ZPF exposing the machinations that ZANU PF uses to fulfill it's appetite for fraud. It does not please the Almighty God whenever fraud is practiced whether at a lower level or highest level, hence we are suffering immensely. Let the will of God prevail by being fair in accepting the will of the people when we choose leaders of our choice. If we want to be fair enough, why does the old man Robert Mugabe himself always publicly acts as if he mad a mistake by saying in 2008 Morgan Tsvangirai got 74% and tries to rectify figures. It's because he is still haunted by the truth. We don't condone corruption , that's the reason why he cannot manage to stamp authority on all the responsible authorities he appoints because they are birds of the same furthers they flock together. Let the truth be exposed in whatever manner. This system of wanting to gag people such that they do not lay the dirty linen in the public simply because Mugabe will loose international recognition is harmful and causes Zimbabwe to decay socially, economically and politically.

Zim politics is a difficult proposition, who can really define it?

DANDE,MBIRE ANGWA BRIDGE - 26 May 2016

It amazing how idiotic and silly the parties in Zim are. Instead of commenting on Zanu strategy you should just be finding ways around it. The problem with opposition parties in Zim is that they think that talking about Zanu in action will somehow mitigate the outcome of an event when they themselves have not done any work. Each party should focus on itself and quit this silly press conferences to comment on events that have already passed. they should all be finding ways to showcase their numbers the way Zanu has, because Zanu by hook and crook has shown that they have more numbers than MDC in marching, but the western media does not focus on people being forced onto buses but rather the total number of people that attended the function, they might spin it into resource wastage in a drought land but how the numbers got there is not a point. Saka lets focus on the important things here. 2018 elections matoona kuti Zanu yatanga zvayo, imwi chitangaiwo zvenyu and stop beating on dead horse stories that everyone knows.

Nhaiwe moyo, which people were forced to board a bus and attend the one million man march?let them come out and say so.The problem with opposition politics is that they never see anything good coming out of the peoples party zanu pf.period.All they do is to criticize for the sack of criticizing. There is no constructive criticism from opposition. It is this attitude which will forever ensure zanu pf remain in power.Imbotiudzaiwo your policies kuti akamira sei. This Mugabe must go mantra has lost relevance.Whilst zanu pf is busy weighing its popularity some morons are already crying that elections will be rigged.its the opposition rigging itself.Just word of advice to you,for free:if you are dreaming of one day coming to power, which is very unlikely ofcourse, this is the time to educate your so called supporters to register now to vote. The 800 or so supporters who marched during the so called mother of all demonstrations are noy even registered voters.dont blame the ruling party for your shortcomings

kalizzy - 27 May 2016

Zanu Pf has always coerced people to join their activities. If you check the Sunday Mail, Munyaradzi Huni's interviews with the early war vets with Cde Khumalo, you will notice that Cde Khumalo said that at one time, Zanu had less numbers than Zapu for military training, and so they had to abduct Zimbabwean people working in Zambia to join them. From there, the culture has not changed and it is now a matter of rounding up people disembarking from a Kombi and say join the 1m men march. Cde Khumalo even further says for them to convince the OAU that they were a credible liberation movement, they had to send the same cadres for training under different names, just to show up numbers. Remember the voter registration slips of 2013? Haaa vanhu ava vakatangira zvokuba kare kare ava. I rest my case. Rugare Gumbo you have a point though, that this is the start of the Elections rigging machinery.
