Million-man march waste of resources - Ncube

HARARE - Welshman Ncube’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has castigated Zanu PF’s planned May 25 million-man march as a desperate ploy to prop up nonagenarian leader, President Robert Mugabe, who they said has led Zimbabwe to ruins.

“The MDC notes the planned Zanu PF youth league-organised million-man march and acknowledges the party’s constitutionally enshrined right to do so.

“However the march must be seen for what it is; a weak, directionless, pointless and desperate ploy to prop up their nonagenarian leader, Mugabe who has led this country to ruins.

“The march is a waste of time and resources and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves,” MDC spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said in a statement.

“It defies logic that a whole march would be dedicated to proving support for Mugabe when the country is currently going through so many economic challenges.

“It is sad that the Zanu PF youth league allows itself to be used in this to promote a president who has failed them in every sense, preferring instead to use them as instruments of violence on his opponents.”

The Zanu PF youth league has said the march is designed to show the world that Mugabe enjoys a lot of support at home though his party is riddled

with worsening factionalism.

Chihwayi said it was unfortunate that the right to demonstrate is being vulgarised by Zanu PF.

“And just like the Grace rallies and war veterans indaba before it, the taxpayer will be forced to pump up the costs for this worthless cause.

“The planned march will only bring misery to the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Zanu PF would be better advised to use this march to give Zimbabweans answers to what happened to the 2,2 million jobs it promised; what government plans to do about the drought and hunger ravaging most parts of the country; the corruption cancer that is bleeding our economy dry and how on earth the soon-to-be-introduced bond notes are going to improve the liquidity crisis.

“These should be matters for the youths to bring across instead of wasting time and resources promoting an individual like Mugabe who for the last 36 years failed to prioritise the interests of ordinary Zimbabweans.

“As MDC, we simply cannot stand back while those most in need are ignored by a government that puts Zanu PF first and the people last every time.”
