Marabini, Black Umfolosi set for Culture Week

BULAWAYO - Imbube and mbaqanga outfit Black Umfolosi, poet Albert Nyathi and Afro-fusion star Jeys Marabini will perform at the national launch of the Culture Week that will take place at Godlwayo Culture Centre in Filabusi on May 21, 2016.

In a statement released yesterday, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (Nacz) communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mthombeni said the musicians would be the star

attractions at the national launch of the Culture Week.

“Activities lined up for the national launch include traditional artefacts, food and herbal exhibitions from 22 exhibitors. Some of the exhibitors are Amagugu International Heritage Centre, which was established in 2010 out of Pathisa Nyathi’s vision with the aim of preserving and promoting indigenous cultural heritage.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police Kuyedza Women Club will also showcase their products. The Gender and Women’s Affairs ministry will also be among many exhibitors during this year’s launch,” she said.

In addition to the exhibitions, there will be a procession in which various chiefs will be accompanied by poets from their areas of jurisdiction.

The 2016 Culture Week commemorations, scheduled to run from May 21 to 27, will be held under the theme “Culture Week: Towards Increased Community Participation”.

The Culture Week commemorations are in line with the 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity by Unesco that proclaimed May 21 of each year as the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
