Selmor, Tendai in double album launch

HARARE - Songbird Selmor Mtukudzi and her husband Tendai Manatsa, who “divorced musically” two years ago, will jointly launch their new albums on May 14 in Harare.

The double album launch, being organised by Strides Hospitality and Entertainment Group, will be hosted by La Rouge in Westgate.

Selmor, daughter of music legend Oliver Mtukudzi, will launch an album titled I am Woman, which the lanky songstress and actress has dedicated to women.

“It is about all the good qualities of a woman,” said Selmor, whose other albums are Shungu and Expressions which carries the hit song Nguva Yangu that was nominated in National Arts Merit Awards (Nama).

Songs on the nine-track album are Ndinaye Wangu, Remember Girls, Sorry Babe featuring Buffalo Souljah, Mwana Asingacheme, I Am Woman, Ndinochengetwa featuring Mathias Mhere, Zvidikidiki, Baba Vevana and Butterflies.

Tendai, the son of music legend Zexie Manatsa, has jokingly described his seven-track album as far better than that of Selmor.

“Selmor stands no chance on this one,” said the former Afrika Revenge guitarist whose other album is Kudzoka Kwababa which he released in 2011.

Tendai’s new album is called Bhomba, which happens to be his nickname. The talented guitarist featured his famous father on the track Nyadenga while his London-based brother Aaron featured on the song Vanodanwa. He also collaborated with rapper Stunner on the song Ndichifema.

Other songs on Tendai’s album are Totenda Dzanwa, Kunyeperwa, Kuvhetemesa and Pfumo.

Until their 2014 “musical split”, Selmor and Tendai had released two joint albums Ndinewe (I am With You) and Tendai and Selmor Live.
