India to tour Zim

HARARE - The Zimbabwe national cricket team will return to action next month when India tours the country for a series comprising three ODIs and three T20 internationals.

Zimbabwe Cricket(ZC)’s managing director Wilfred Mukondiwa confirmed the Asian giants’ tour in a statement yesterday.

“After finalising all the formalities with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, we are pleased to announce the incoming tour scheduled for this June,” Mukondiwa said.

The tour will begin with the ODI series on June 11, 13 and 15 before the T20s get underway on June 18, 20 and 22. All the matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club.

India have been regular travellers to Zimbabwe in recent seasons with three previous tours since 2010, including last year, all featuring limited-overs matches in which they whitewashed the locals.

The former World Champions have rested a number of their key players during their tours to Zimbabwe. Some of the second string Indian cricketers have, however, put in some good performances during those tours to cement their place in the side.

Zimbabwe have been struggling with their game of late and were knocked out of this year’s ICC World T20 in India after losing to Associate nation Afghanistan in the qualifying stages before the Super 10 Phase.
