Musona settles platinum derby

HARARE - Walter Musona scored the all-important goal which gave his side FC Platinum maximum points against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium in a Castle Lager Premiership match yesterday.

Musona scored just after four minutes to ensure that the Zvishavane-based side maintain their 100 percent start to the season and return to the top of the log standings.

Norman Mapeza’s side were obliged to beat Ngezi after Harare giants CAPS United had beaten Dynamos 1-0 on Sunday to assume top spot.

FC Platinum are now on 12 points from the first four matches of the season with CAPS United coming second with 10 points.

After taking the lead, FC Platinum went on to enjoy more possession and create the better chances in the opening period but they failed to make them count.

The Zvishavane-based side could have rued those missed chances as Ngezi Platinum came back more determined in the second period in search of an equaliser.

Clifton Kadurira’s men were, however, let down by some poor finishing as they could not break down the Platinum defence.

In the end, FC Platinum managed to hold on to their lead and earn their fourth win on the trot.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Chicken Inn, who suffered their first defeat of the season were pushed to fifth place on the table while Kelvin Kaindu’s How Mine are now on third place with eight points.

In other matches that were played at the weekend Highlanders drew one-all with Bulawayo City, while Harare City beat Hwange 4-1.

Chapungu and Tsholotsho played a one-all draw with How Mine edging Triangle 2-0.
