Zanu PF has no competitor: Mandiwanzira

BULAWAYO - Despite the fact that even President Robert Mugabe has admitted that Zanu PF is divided along  factional lines — Nyanga South legislator Supa Mandiwanzira — says the party is united and will win elections come 2018.

Observers say Zanu PF — which is divided along two factional lines — is at weakest point as rivals in the Team Lacoste and Generation 40 (G40) factions continue tearing each other in the brutal contest to succeed 92-year-old Mugabe.

But addressing journalists here on Thursday night, Mandiwanzira was adamant that all is well in the governing party.

Mandiwanzira accused the media of creating an impression that there were divisions in the ruling party.

“There is a lot of creativity in the media which gives an impression that is not there. What I know for a fact is that Zanu PF is united, we will win the next elections freely and fairly, there are no internal fights they are just disagreements and its health to have disagreements,” he said.

The Zanu PF central committee member said there was certainly no party that can stand against Zanu PF in the next elections.

“The perception that Zanu PF is going to win unfairly is a media creation and perception, the reality is that we have no competition.

“Frankly speaking there is no competition, tell me one political party that can stand up given the consistence of Zanu PF in the last five years.”

Explaining why he was confident that no party will match the deeply divided party come 2018, Mandiwanzira said it was because they never stopped campaigning since the last elections.

“How do I know that we will win the elections in 2018, is because when I won the elections in 2013 the next day I started campaigning for the forthcoming elections.

“If you go to Inyanga in my constituency they know one political player which is Zanu PF and myself. We have been campaigning for the last five years,” he said.

In a thinly-veiled attack at the former vice president Joice Mujuru-led Zimbabwe People First, Mandiwanzira ruled them out the game.

“There are some who are launching their parties today two years before an election they cannot beat some of us who have been campaigning since the last election in 2013.”
