Chris Martin promises good show

HARARE - Jamaican reggae-singer Christopher Martin, who will hold his maiden concert in Zimbabwe at Glamis Arena in Harare tonight, has promised a show to remember.

The Cheater’s Prayer hit-maker, who jetted into Zimbabwe on Wednesday evening, will share the stage with local artistes who include Jah Prayzah, Winky D, and Ninja Lipsy.

“It gonna be a good night, I promise,” said Martin whose set will include fellow Jamaican star D-Major.

Tuku, Mokoomba to headline HIFM

MUSIC superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and the internationally acclaimed Mokoomba are expected to illuminate the star-studded music section of the two-day Harare International Food and Music Festival (HIFM) which kicks off tomorrow at the Borrowdale Racecourse.

Tuku and Mokoomba are part of the Jazz Night slot that will run between 7pm to 1am tomorrow.

They will share the stage with Mokoomba, Daniel Jenkins, Eve Kawadza, Munya Nyamarebvu and Maxwell C.

Ordinary tickets for the show are going for $10, while the VIP ones cost $20.

The first gig of HIFM tomorrow will be a free show featuring contestants from the Dream star talent search competition.

The Dreamstar gig will give way to the Genesis Gospel Show featuring Michael Mahendere, Gospel stars Charles and Olivia Charamba, Toggy Chivaviro and Sebastian Magacha.

Gospel fans will have to pay $5 for ordinary tickets and $10 for the VIP ones.

Hip-hop fans have every reason to look forward to Sunday when Junior Brown and Bulawayo-based Cal_lvin will battle it out during the The Street Hip-Hop Show that will also feature Trae Young, Croft, Ti Gonzi and Probeatz.

This gig, which has $5 and $10 tickets, will start at 10pm and end at 1am. The final HIFM gig will be the DJ Battle Night The movement, DJ Tannie Swiss, DJ Dawee, DJ Nivek and Ash Styles.

Bulawayo comes alive

THE Sam Mtukudzi Commemorative gig, on tonight at the large City Hall, will kick-start the City of Kings’ entertainment-packed weekend.

The Bulawayo commemoration of Tuku’s son aged 22, who perished in a 2010 road accident that also claimed the young artiste’s 24-year-old friend Owen Chimhare, will feature Tuku, Gary Tight, Jeys Marabini, Pakare Paye Ensembles and Ashton Nyahora better known as Mbeu.

Tomorrow night, will see Jah Prayzah and Winky D share the stage at Bulawayo Amphitheatre.

On the same night, Queens Sports Ground will host hip-hop star Cal_vin, Unathi and several local acts.

Sulu dates Beitbridge, Chivi, Kadoma

Dendera star Suluman will begin his weekend programme tonight at Eland Night Club in Beitbridge after which he will perform at Huruyadzo Bar in Chivi the following night.

On Sunday, Suluman will combine forces with Zimdancehall star Winky D at Odysey in Kadoma.

Africa’s top Christian rapper in Harare tonight

Christian rapper Courtney Antipas, who was recently crowned as Africa’s best Christian hip-hop artiste by a four-member panel made up of prominent players gleaned from the continent, will headline a gospel concert set for Borrowdale Community Church tonight.

Antipas, who was formerly known as III Ceey, will share the stage with Sabrina, Wired 2 Worship, Brad Odilo, Sharon Gweshe, Courtney Antipas, Ndumiso, Tinashe Zimuto, Rated, Ashley, Nyasha, Emmanuel Magumise, Muashe, Tino Munembe, Thabo Dhlamini, Pastor Rudy, Chantelle and Pearl.

Iain Macdonald’s Art Retrospective Exhibition

Tomorrow Iain Macdonald will hold a retrospective exhibition featuring work from as far back as 1971 when he was a student at the St Martin’s College of Art London at Chisipite Junior School tomorrow morning.

It will include oils, pastels as well as acrylics covering various subject matters such as dancers, dhows, Zanzibar ladies, animals and abstracts.
