Antipas speaks on How Mine

HARARE - Following a perfect start to the season Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas has warned his side not to fall into the complacency trap when the Castle Lager premiership action resumes this weekend.

The defending champions take on How Mine in a Bulawayo derby at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

Chicken Inn have started their 2016 campaign in scintillating form after notching back-to-back victories against Dynamos and newly promoted Boarder Strikers in their opening two matches.

The Gamecocks underlined their dominance on the local front when they lifted the Independence Cup after beating Highlanders 2-1 in the final on Monday at the National Sports Stadium.

On their way to the final Chicken Inn had dispatched Dynamos 1-0 in the semi-finals.

And ahead of Saturday’s clash against the gold miners, Antipas has challenged his side to remain level-headed as over-confidence could be the biggest threat to his side’s perfect start.

“It’s been a great start and I think we have shown some good composure,” Antipas said.

“In the opening two games when the points have been on offer we have taken them, and that’s really pleasing. We need to stay focused on what we have to do. We need to keep getting results for our happiness and obviously for the people that support us.

“It’s important that we are not complacent and there is no need to be carried away.”

Antipas reckons How Mine, who are now under Zambian coach Kelvin Kaindu, will not make it easy for his charges.

“They are a good side with a lot of experienced players and they will not make it easy for us,” Antipas said.

“We will however go there and apply ourselves in the same manner.”

How Mine have picked four points in their opening two matches and are eager to make a lasting impression this season having acquired a number of new players.

In other fixtures set for the weekend Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum will be hoping to continue their good run as well.

FC Platinum and Chicken Inn are the only teams with a 100 percent record in the league thus far.

Saturday: Chicken Inn v How Mine (Luveve), ZPC Kariba v Bulawayo City (Nyamhunga), FC Platinum v Chapungu (Mandava)

Sunday: Triangle v Border Strikers (Gibbo), Tsholotsho v Highlanders (Barbourfields), CAPS United v Harare City (National Sports Stadium), Mutare City Rovers v Dynamos (Sakubva), Hwange v Ngezi Platinum Stars (Colliery)
