Tuku to 'crown' Sam Dondo tonight

HARARE - Music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Dendera star Suluman Chimbetu, Zimdancehall king Winky D and red-hot sungura maestro Alick Macheso will grace the launch of upcoming musician Sam Dondo’s nine-track debut album titled Dyara Minamato at Alexandra Sports Club tonight.

Suluman, Jah Prayzah, producer-cum-keyboardist Munyaradzi Viali and highly-rated South Africa-based sound engineer/producer Keith Farquharson all played part on 30-year-old Dondo’s maiden album.

Songs on the album include Zviuya Zviri Mberi, Kanganwa Nhamo, Dyara Minamato, Dzungu, Varegerei, Anonzwa, Vauya Neni, Kamberevere and Peka Uende.

Dondo is hopeful that the help he got from the various experienced artistes will make his debut offering the darling of music fans.

“There is no better stepping stone than starting with the help of seasoned artistes who really know virtually every corner of the music field.

“The experience I have garnered so far can’t compare with the guys who assisted me. I strongly believe that their help has made my music journey smooth,” he told the Daily News.

Over the past few weeks, Dondo has been a supporting act at Suluman’s shows as part of efforts to prepare the music rookie for tonight’s album launch.

“When Suluman asked me to support him at his concerts, I did not immediately warm up to the idea but I later realised that he was preparing me for the stage. It was hard at first but the more experience I gained, the more I lost stage fright,” Dondo said.
