Designer Mpofu to represent Zim

BULAWAYO - Award-winning designer Saneliso Mpofu is the only Zimbabwean who has been invited to showcase her creations at the two-day Tshwane Fashion Festival which begins in Pretoria tomorrow.

Mpofu, whose label is called Sanah Designs, will participate at the event that seeks to promote talented young African designers.

The young designer told the Daily News that she was elated to be the only Zimbabwean singled out to take part in such a highly-rated fashion showcase.

“I hope one day African girls will be set free from stereotypes and preconceived ideas planted in them. I thank God and my family for support,” Mpofu said.

Sanah Designs publicist Gilmore Moyo said Mpofu deserves the honour to represent Zimbabwe at the fashion festival where she will link up with fellow designers from the continent.

“Saneliso is a graduate from the Bulawayo Polytechnic and she was also groomed by major fashion houses such as Edgars Stores and Escapades. She has showcased at platforms that include the Durban Fashion Fair, Intwasa Fashion Show and Matabeleland Fashion Week and is therefore looking forward to the Tshwane event,” said Moyo, adding that Mpofu’s designs seek to disentangle African girls from stereotypes.

According to Moyo the Tshwane Fashion Festival has facilitated partnerships that have seen designers from the event showcase at platforms in Ghana and Nigeria. This year the organisers have promised to create linkages with similar events in the US.
