Macheso's 'Tsoka Dzerwendo' launch tonight

HARARE - Zimdancehall star Killer T and mbira songstress Hope Masike are some of the artistes scheduled to perform at the launch of sungura star Alick Macheso’s 10th album Tsoka Dzerwendo at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) tonight.

Interestingly, no sungura artiste has been invited to perform at the launch of the album that has reportedly sold over 250 000 copies since it was released on Monday.

“We are the only sungura group that will perform at the event. We have invited Killer T, Ninja Lipsy, Hope Masike, Extra Large and Tererai Mugwadi to support us. Orchestra Mberikwazvo should be the centre of attraction during the launch that is why we didn’t include other sungura groups,” said Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager Lucky Macheso.

He, however, added that the guest of honour at the event will be Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) national president Edson Mlambo since the sungura star is the ZRCS ambassador.

Tsoka Dzerwendo, Macheso’s first album since 2012, has been widely accepted by music fans. Lucky, who revealed that advance tickets for the launch gig were already on sale, expressed hope that music fans would come in big numbers.

“Our fans have been waiting for this album for the past four years. The album is now there so I am sure they will fill up the HICC. As usual Macheso and Orchestra Mberikwazvo will give the fans a good show.

“We have also included artistes from other genres to spice up the event,” said the Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager.

The album Tsoka Dzerwendo (Ayayaa) contains six tracks namely Baba, Kurarama Inyasha, Wandirangaridza, Munyaradzi, Gungwa and Mude Mude.

Potential hits include Baba which advises men against spurning their fatherly responsibilities and Kurarama Inyasha on which Macheso says life is a favour from God.

Another possible hit is Gungwa which is about the futility of interfering with God’s pre-determined plans.

The Tafadzwa hit-maker’s previous albums include Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure), Zvinoda Kutendwa, Ndezvashe-eh, Vapupuri Pupurai, Zvido Zvenyu Kunyanya, Zvakanaka Zvakadaro, Simbaradzo, Vakiridzo and Magariro.
