Women cricket team off to SA

HARARE - The Zimbabwe women Under-21 cricket team leaves for South Africa this morning for a Twenty20 tournament against the neighbouring country’s provincial teams.

A 14-member squad comprising mostly of senior national team cricketers will be accompanied by four officials for the tournament to be held in Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

Head of delegation and team manager Carol Nyamande said the team had a week-long training camp at Harare Sports Club and is optimistic they will post encouraging performances.

“We didn’t really have a long period to train. We would have loved to do that but I think we still covered enough ground with the little time we had and I’m confident that we are not going to make up the numbers in South Africa but we’re going there to compete,” Nyamande told the Daily News yesterday.

Zimbabwe Under-21 Squad: Audrey Mazvishaya, Modester Mpachikwa, Josephine Nkomo, Loreen Tshuma, Nomatter Mutasa, Anesu Mushangwe, Rebecca Chikomborero, Rumbidzai Nhire, Chiedza Dhiruru, Nomvelo Sibanda, Ellen Tshuma, Olivia Samwanda, Francisca Chipare, Nyasha Gwanzura.
