Pay security guards better

EDITOR — Can something be done to improve the welfare and conditions of service of security guards?

Being security guards does not mean we should not lead better lives.

In fact, in some countries, security guards are respected and well-paid because of the importance of their jobs. But here in Zimbabwe, we are treated as “useless” people.

The security firms make a lot of money, but they pay us peanuts. We are being persecuted by these companies and we ask the government and other concerned citizens to come to our aid.

We have suffered enough and it’s time something was done about this.

There is no way we will continue to accept poor salaries and other deplorable working conditions under the current economic situation.

Prices of goods have gone up, the general cost of living is beyond the majority of us. How can we survive on $150 per month pay?

More than half the security guards are unable to take care of their basic needs on the salaries they are paid. We also work without benefits such as sick leave and vacation leave with pay. Please, feel pity for us security guards. We are suffering!  We have families to look after.

$150 its way below the minimum wage gazzetted figure. There is no need to involve the governmnent on matters that they have already attended to. Confirm with the NECSI they will advise you accordingly
