Iyasa hosts 10 schools

BULAWAYO - Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) in partnership with Culture Fund of Zimbabwe will this Friday host the 7th edition finals of their annual competition Isiphiwo Sami Talent Search and Development programme.

The event will be held at Eveline High School. According to Iyasa director Nkululeko Dube, 10 local schools will battle it out for honours.

The schools were selected out of over 35 schools that took part in the programme’s preliminaries last week.

These include Mzilikazi High, Gifford High, Msitheli High, Sizane High, Milton High, Eveline High, Njube High, Mandwandwe High, Northlea High and Luveve High.

This year’s theme is Age Of Consent (virtue or vice).

“Schools came up with theatre productions based on the topical theme and also took part in various workshops organised by Iyasa to help them unravel the theme,” Dube said.

“Culture Fund is currently driving the ‘Culture Impacts’ theme and this was a befitting theme considering the current debate on the issue of age of consent in the country.

“Most people in our society have been confused further and still do not know what age of consent entails and means let alone at what age it is,” he said.

Meanwhile, a 10-member Iyasa crew left yesterday for their annual international tour where they are set to tour Austria and other countries that include Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, and Sweden among others.
