DeMbare reveal Silva's qualifications

HARARE - Dynamos yesterday revealed the qualifications of their new gaffer Paulo Jorge Silva and threw their weight behind the Portuguese, who has been under scrutiny since his appointment in January.

“The primary selection criterion was, he going to be a foreign coach; he needed to have a Uefa B licence and if it was a local coach, he needed to have a Caf A licence. These are the key areas that we looked at,” Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha said yesterday at a function to unveil the club’s 2016 squad.

“So I can tell you that our coach Silva has got a Uefa B licence and is currently engaged in the Uefa A licence. You can confirm with the Portuguese Federation if you want.”

DeMbare president Kenny Mubaiwa said; “We have heard phone calls coming everyday enquiring about the coach’s position and we thought it wise for you guys come and let you know the position of the coach.”

Silva has been in the media for all the wrong reasons during his short tenure at the Glamour Boys after several clashes with his assistants and players.

The Portuguese coach even attracted the wrath of women’s groups and activists after he man-handled a female ZBC cameraperson earlier this month.

DeMbare have, however, remained steadfastly behind their coach despite the growing discontent from their fans.

The 2016 DeMbare squad unveiled yesterday comprises 22 senior players and three junior players promoted from their development side.

Veteran striker, Takesure Chinyama, still battling for full fitness has been omitted pending a full assessment from by the team doctors.

“These players have actually submitted their names for registration; they have a clean bill of health. The other players who are still being assessed include Chinyama,” said Chikengezha.

“The assessment is with the injury and you will notice he has been on-and-off the training field and the doctors say they are assessing him.

“We are hoping that before the window closes they would have fully assessed the player and find out whether he is still fit to play for now or he would have to wait until the next appropriate times.”
