HARARE - The Mighty Warriors got their Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying campaign off to a flyer as they cruised to a 2-1 away win against Tanzania on Friday in Dar es Salaam.
The Mighty Warriors had to fight from behind after finding themselves trailing the Twiga Stars following an Omary Mwanahamis surprise goal in the 18th minute.
Shadreck Mlauzi’s charges, however, quickly re-grouped and equalised two minutes later through Marjory Nyaumwe.
Erina Jeke ensured Mlauzi’s side carry a commanding win to the second leg to be hosted in Harare in the next two weeks after getting the winner three minutes after the break.
The Mighty Warriors now need at least a draw to qualify for the next round where they will meet either Namibia or Zambia.
Seven teams from the qualifiers will join Cameroon from November 19 to December 3 for the tournament.
Mighty Warriors last year wrote their own piece of history by becoming the first football side in the country to qualify for the global sporting showpiece in Brazil this year and are now aiming at qualifying for the African Women Championships.
They are also using the African Women Championships as preparations for the Olympic Games to be held in Brazil later this year.
