We don't fear Gamecocks: Silva

HARARE - Dynamos coach Paulo Jorge Silva says his charges will be ready to face defending champions Chicken Inn in their opening match of the 2016 Castle Lager Premiership season next month.

According to the 2016 fixture released by the PSL on Tuesday, the Harare giants will begin their season with a tough away trip to Bulawayo to face the Gamecocks.

“It will definitely be a difficult game for us because we will be facing the champions,” Silva, who replaced Tonderai Ndiraya at the start of this year, told the Daily News yesterday.

“They are a good side, make no mistake. I watched them play in the Champions League and they play some good football. They have a strong team capable of beating anyone.

“But my team will be out to fight for three points in each and every game that we will play. We are not going to have any excuses come end of season.

“Our target is to be champions at the end of the season and there is nothing impossible. The good thing is that my team is improving every day. We need to avoid the mistakes from last season which saw us lose the title.”

DeMbare are leaving for Malawi today for a week-long tour which Silva believes will give him a perfect opportunity to assess his squad.

“We are going to Malawi and we hope to maximise on the opportunity. I am going to give all the players a chance in Malawi to prove themselves. At this stage, we are not worried about the results,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gamecocks coach Joey Antipas said the opening match against DeMbare will be a challenge like all the other 14 teams they will face.

“All the PSL fixtures are tough and tricky and everything goes down to planning and preparations,” Antipas told the Daily News yesterday.

“Obviously, starting the season against Dynamos will be difficult but I think it does not make a big difference.

“We still have about a month to go before the season kicks off so we need to get ourselves organised and make sure we will be ready for the first match.

“Once again, we have to try and challenge for honours. We are the defending champions and we would definitely want to defend our title.

“We have retained most of our players from last season while adding some guys as well. We are still preparing and we hope to be ready when the season starts.”
