MDC the biggest loser — Zanu PF

HARARE - Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC will be the biggest loser from the launch of Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZPF), Zanu PF secretary for legal affairs Patrick Chinamasa has claimed.

Responding to questions without notice time in the National Assembly yesterday, Chinamasa said Zanu PF was not losing sleep over the formation of ZPF.

“Yes, I admit what we saw yesterday is a group of disgruntled former Zanu PF leadership being grafted to MDC-T followers. So the obituary should be on their side. They no longer have any followers,” Chinamasa said.

His remarks came after Kuwadzana East MDC MP Nelson Chamisa had queried government’s position on the recent attacks on war veterans.

“VaChinamasa takaona zvinorwadza zvikuru mawar veterans edu achidirwa mvura inopisa vachidirwa utsi hunokachidza (we were hurt to see our liberation icons being tear-gassed),” Chamisa said.

“But they are our liberation fighters, magamba akaitwa sezvigamba (our war veterans were reduced to beggars). What does the government say about the stressing of our liberation icons?”

Chinamasa replied calmly, saying President Robert Mugabe had adequately addressed war veterans.

“The president correctly apologised to the war vets and he apportioned blame to what happened. It is regrettable what happened and I hope in future such incidences will not occur,” he said.

In a supplementary question, Chamisa questioned if actions of the police were not sowing discontent among the ranks of liberation fighters, resulting in the formation of breakaway parties such as ZPF.

“ . . . I think he must begin to write an obituary of his party because the people that were assembled were disgruntled MDC-T people,” Chinamasa said.

The war veterans’ bashing stirred debate when Innocent Gonese, who is the MDC MP for Mutare Central, probed Home Affairs deputy minister Obedingwa Mguni if the police were acquainted with the provisions of the Public Order and Security Act (Posa).

“...are they aware that organisations such as the war veterans associations are not actually required to apply or notify the police?”

Mguni acknowledged it was a pertinent question but said: “I would like to go back and find out.”

It immediately drew the ire of legislators, with Musikavanhu MDC MP Prosper Mutseyami raising a point of order.

“Mr Speaker Sir, this house has the responsibility to ask Cabinet minister who should be well versed with issues to do with this country,” he said.

“As we speak, Mr Speaker Sir, we have more than 30 Cabinet ministers but we only have about 11 in Parliament if we are to include their deputies, then we have about 70 ministers.”

“So it’s important to see to it that your office is given the due respect it deserves. We have raised issues with regard to non-availability of ministers in this house.

“Now it seems like the shortage of ministers in this house is now a normal scenario whereby we pose questions to deputy ministers who are not in picture of what is happening.”

This is rather disingenuous from Chinamasa hey! From outsiders, it looks more like Mujuru will split Zanu wide open.Poaching disgruntled members fed up with the current infighting. As for making inroads into MDC,perhaps. The ideological divide will be tough to bridge for most methinks...A coalition of sorts on the other hand........Interesting times ahead.

Nonsense gamatox and chifukuto are going to split votes simply as that unless if some is confused like Chinamasa . This time Morgan has good chance to take all votes never mind about Mujuru she only has a few political prostitutes on her side and that does not win election .for her .

Diibulaanyika - 4 March 2016

mujuru has no chance of making inroads into people who use their brains. she is the architect of the problems currently bedevilling the country and to think that she will be our messiah is daydreaming. what new can someone you failed to make any tangible achievement in 35 days make?

I agree with you brother Diibulaanyika, let Zanu Pf fool itself thinking Zimbabweans don't know what they need. The main party is MDC.I only want them to pressurize for electoral reforms or no elections in 2018.Let them have their own elections. And will see what comes out of flawed elections.

We been in the tranches for almost 20 years! I have had enough of Chematama winning elections but failing to capture state power. Hazvibatsire to keep on hoping and placing our votes in the wrong basket. Zimbabwe yakuda vanhu vane zvivindi kwete vanotya kufa. Shuwa unoti wahwina election vakutiza nyika! Remember in 2008 what happened? Biti na Chamisa vakasara woita press conference ku Miekles Tsvangirai atiza nyika kare! Guys lets give change a change zvinoda vakashinga izvi. I doubt that if Mujuru wins an elections she will run and hide in the Netherlands Embassy.

Biggest looser due to this launch of the new political party is the democratic space in Zimbabwe. 1. As already been said ZANU PF thrives in confusion, the more political parties we have just like in 2008, the greater are the chances for ZANU PF to rig 2. The greater the number of political parties greater the confusion it will pose for electorate to be deceived by ZANU PF and even the ballot papers to be mixed up. 3. Its known fact that the electorate in Zimbabwe does not decide anything but the JOC which is chaired by Mugabe and deputized by VPs and security chiefs in attenadnce call the short, that means with more political parties it becames more difficulty for the electorate to speak in one voice to cause JOC to want to comply since these political parties will not be having similar concerns over how the elections would have turned out. 4. In Zimbabwe, we have a tendance of pollirisation of the political space, that has worked well if there are just two political spaces, that means first round vote will achieve the 50% plus 1 person easily as required by the constitution, hence this will minimize result manipulation as what was witness in 2008. Based on this, the democracy which people been crying for will be not achieved again, resulting in more frustrations and disgruntlement
