Arundel School to tour US

HARARE - Arundel School’s hockey first team plans to go on a pre-season tour of the US, in April, with the help of sponsors such as NMB Bank. The bank donated $2 000 for hockey kit.

The team, which is made up of players aged 16 to 18, will compete against high school teams in Washington DC and university sides as well.

The girls who make up the first team say they love to play competitive hockey. Last season, some of them were selected for both the provincial and national teams.

The team came sixth last season in the Golden Girls Tournament.

The United States tour is meant to develop the team ahead of a new season.

“At NMB Bank we believe that initiatives such as this, where local teams seek to develop themselves through exposure to competition with teams in other countries, are worth supporting,” said NMB Bank marketing manager Lindiwe Thebethebe.

“We feel that girls’ sporting events are particularly worth supporting, as they often do not receive the same attention as their male counterparts,” she added.

In addition to providing funds for the purchase of kit, NMB Bank, together with other corporates, sponsored a golf tournament that was held on February 19 in order to raise more funds for the tour. — MHPR
