Mungoshi Jnr to release five books on single night

HARARE - Charles Mungoshi Jnr will on Thursday next week launch an inspirational title The Curse of Being Young and Successful: Inspired by the Life of Chamu Chiwanza at the Meikles Hotel in Harare.

Mungoshi Jnr, who is son to renowned Shona and English novelist-cum-poet Charles Mungoshi, will also release four more 2016 titles on the same night titled; Falls for the Top, Madhiri Ecash, Inspirations from Lack on the Road to Abundance and Snippets of my Versatile Mind which are all inspirational works.

Indeed a rare kind of event. A single writer releasing five books on the same night is a unique feat.

In an interview with the Daily News, Mungoshi Jnr said his writer father is his greatest inspiration. “I hated writing in the beginning because of the challenges my father went through . . . When I decided to write my first book in 2008, which my father edited, . . . I felt a relief . . . I had managed to accomplish something in life . . . I want my father to know that it’s not going to end.”

The young writer, who went to Prince Edward School for his secondary education, having grown up in Zengeza 1, Chitungwiza, also said that he chose motivational and inspirational writing because of the state Zimbabwe is in at the moment, adding that he has a lot of “hot short stories but I know people would want to judge my works against the standards set by my father”.

Mungoshi Jnr conceded that people were too busy these days trying to find something to eat and therefore hardly find time to read.

“Against Whatsapp, against Facebook, I have decided to write these books.”

The launch of The Curse of Being Young and Successful: Inspired by the Life of Chamu Chiwanza and the release of the five other titles are testimony that Mungoshi Junior has set himself targets that will ultimately prove his mettle in this highly competitive literary arts sector.

The book carries truths on how Africans react when they come across a successful young person, the negative attitude they portray due to the failure to comprehend success.

Mediocrity has become the standard of greatness — when someone goes or does beyond the average they suffer a great deal of criticism, from family, the officials among others. But far from the criticism — there is a great revelation communicated to help someone rise beyond the usual.

On the other hand, Falls for the Top is an expression found in the attitude of a fighter who doesn’t fall to stay down but falls to rise and continue. This is a collection of articles scribed to intrigue a culture of success against the tough times hounding the Zimbabwean economy.

MaDhiri eCash is a Shona slang book with a little English to help the unreached community through street lingo to get the attention of the masses and remind them that they can still make it.

Inspirations from Lack on the Road to Abundance shows that everyone has a story to tell — whether harsh or good it still has influence on where you are today. The main challenge that a lot of people face today is caused by their backgrounds — you have to accept where you are and rise to be a better person by embracing the past and allowing it to fuel your thinking to greater heights.

Snippets of my Versatile Mind is simplified for the readers’ experience to be great — but in this book there is a simplicity driven by a sophisticated mind with the thought of sharing snippets that can influence change in the lives of many.
