Coca-Cola honours top artistes

HARARE - It was all smiles yesterday at Mandel Training Centre in Harare as Coca-Cola honoured the three top local artistes from both radio and television for the year 2015.

Apart from rewarding musicians with food hampers and cash prizes which ranged from $100 to $1 200, the bottling company also honoured more than 20 radio listeners and television viewers who had accurately predicted the first five songs or videos of the annual Coca-Cola Top 50.

Gospel music star Blessing Shumba walked away with $1 200 after claiming top position on the 2015 Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe Top 50.

The Mutare-based musician’s hit Chimwe Nechimwe off his latest album Ndijesu secured the most votes, beating sungura musician Simon Mutambi’s Mukadzi Akanaka into second position.

Mutambi, one of the most consistent sungura artistes on the local scene, pocketed $800 for coming second best.

South Africa-based Reverend Chivaviro’s Ebenezer — one of the standout tracks of the just-ended year — could only claim third position and the $500 that came with it.

On the other hand, Winky D pocketed $1 200 for his video Chiramu while urban groove artistes Ex Q and Roki won $800 for their joint effort on the video Hallelujah.

Trevor Dongo’s video African Queen, featuring Soul Jah Love, earned him $500 for being on third position locally.

Man-of-the-moment Jah Prayzah walked away with $100 and a certificate for being the most outstanding artiste in 2015 while Soul Jah Love was the best Zimdancehall artiste and the recognition earned him the same amount.

Shumba and Mutambi also received $100 each for being the outstanding gospel and sungura artistes in 2015 respectively.

Radio listeners and television viewers from different areas including Karoi, Nyamapanda, Bindura and Mhondoro among others walked away with various prizes for their predictions and prizes included smart phones and power banks, radio sets and 50-inch television sets among others.

Chengetai Pamela Makai of Karoi was among the 19 radio listeners who were awarded DVD home theatre sound systems for correctly predicting the top five songs on the Coca-cola Top 50.

“I never consulted prophets or sangomas for this but I simply worked on weekly radio Top 20 charts.

“This is my first experience as a winner and I am very glad,” she said.

Nyamapanda-based Tafadzwa Mauya who last year won a 30-inch television for predicting the results of the annual Coca-cola Top 50, walked away with a 50-inch television again yesterday after he correctly guessed the results this year.

“I am going to donate the 30-inch television which I won in 2014 to my mother and I will use this brand new television set,” he said.

Thanx Coca cola for sponsoring these musicians but your prizes were too small as compared to what you get indirectly from these artists.Kuma live shows ana MACHESO kunomwiwa coke kwana Magaya coke.Coke every where and Jah Prazah is not worth 100 dollas.All what i am saying is your prices where too little to make any impact to these artists.and am encouraging you to improve next time but thanks for the effort.
