Bosso to celebrate 90th anniversary

BULAWAYO - Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders will this year celebrate its 90th birthday with preparations already underway.

According to a report from the latest council minutes, the official launch event is set for February 28, at Barbourfields Stadium, just a week before the Premier Soccer League football season kicks off.

“The club leadership has created a sub-committee chaired by Luke Mnkandla to lead the club’s supporters, sons and daughters of Matabeleland to celebrate their institution of football excellence with the rest of Zimbabwe’s football fans and those across the world,” reads part of the minutes.

So as to spice up the celebrations, the Bosso sub-committee approached Cont Mhlanga’s Amakhosi Cultural Centre to assist in providing entertainment.

“It is this mandate that the sub-committee approached Amakhosi Productions as a leading entertainment institution to produce an event where the citizens of Matabeleland and Zimbabwe are free to participate in the commemoration and celebration of this legendary club together as a family.”

As a result, in its application to the city fathers, Amakhosi Cultural Centre proposed to tell the historical story of Bulawayo and its citizens by producing an all year round IBosso@90 2016 Celebration Series where all citizens are free to celebrate this occasion.

“Highlanders as an institution, is Bulawayo’s story that needs to be told to the world.

“With this letter Amakhosi Cultural tours request Council to grant it permission to occupy the tennis courts on the Mpilo side of the BF stadium as soon as possible for one year in 2016 for the purposes of setting up the rehearsals activity Village for the IBosso@90- 2016 Celebration Series.

“This location would be very accessible to all Bulawayo citizens who would love to participate and accessible to the stadium and the practice ground for mass display rehearsals,” reads part of the request from Amakhosi.
