Zifa Unity Cup cancelled

HARARE - The 2015 edition of the Zifa Unity Cup which was scheduled to take place today in Bulawayo has been cancelled.

Initially, Zifa had hoped to see Dynamos and Highlanders clashing in the final scheduled for Barbourfields Stadium but that move failed to materialise.

Highlanders insisted they had released their players for the festive season holidays after the completion of the 2015 season earlier this month.

The association had roped in CAPS United and Bulawayo City at the 11th hour but they were forced to cancel the match altogether.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation of the cancellation of the 2015 Zifa Unity Cup,” Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa said yesterday..

“The cancellation has been compelled by the burial of the national hero, Aguy Georgias at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow (Tuesday).

“The Zimbabwe Football Association remains grateful to Dynamos, CAPS United and Bulawayo City who had agreed to participate. Meanwhile the Association joins the nation in mourning Aguy Georgias.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Georgias family in this time of grief and we encourage them to seek comfort and solace in the almighty.”
