Selection hailed

HARARE - Castle Lager Premiership coaches and players have hailed the 2015 Soccer Stars selection process saying this year’s voting was transparent and managed to produce the XI best players in the land.

Chicken Inn, who were recently crowned league champions, have goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, striker Edmore Chirambadare, midfielders Danny Phiri and Clemence Matawu.

Dynamos provided two players in the form of defender Ocean Mushure and goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva. CAPS United defender Stephen Makatuka was also rewarded for his consistent performances after he also made the final XI.

There was also room for the league’s leading goal scorer Knox Mtizwa of Highlanders.

Triangle forward Hillary Bakacheza, FC Platinum’s Brian Muzondiwa and Raphael Manuvire of ZPC Kariba complete the list.

Chicken Inn captain Danny Phiri, who is tipped to win the Soccer Star of the Year award, believes they deserve all the plaudits they are getting.

“As Chicken Inn, I think we deserve to have the highest number of players in the best XI. We worked hard throughout the season,” he said.

“There was unity in the team; players were fighting for each other that’s why we won the league title. For the top award I think all the players on the list deserve this award.”

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe said all the players selected deserve to be on the 2015 calendar.

“To me the process was transparent, I was very happy with the voting process,” Chitembwe told the Daily News yesterday.

“For the top gong I think all the eleven players selected deserve it; they are not on the calendar by chance or by default — they are there by choice; they worked very hard to achieve this.

“I believe in the selection done by soccer coaches, club captains and members of the media; I think whoever will win on Friday will deserve the award.”
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza echoed the same sentiments also showering praise to his player Muzondiwa for making the list.

“I think the process was fair, at least we got one of my guys in the best XI which is an achievement for me and the club because he just arrived at the club at the beginning of this season.

“For the best player; I think it’s a tough call all the players selected are good. I think we did well this season, it was a job well done taking into consideration our last season’s performance.”
