WeUtonga returns to Zim-Ger society

HARARE - Female bass impresario and Utonga band leader Edith WeUtonga returns to the Zimbabwe-German Society for a special performance tomorrow.

Leading her usual ensemble, Edith will also showcase some of her protégés from the Music Crossroads and Star Bright respectively.

The Mukaranga singer is excited to return to the Zimbabwe-German Society after the highly popular Sekutamba Sekuseka show she played there alongside comedian Doc Vikela.

This special show will see Edith give away CD’s to all ticket holders. Her fans will have a choice to choose from any of her three offerings which are Utonga (2010), Kwacha (2013) and the single Agodoka (2015).

With an impressive stage presence and captivating performance, the two albums and a single have provided a very beautiful playlist. Fans can also expect to sample some of Edith’s new and yet to be released material.

This is material that will be on her next album that she will release in April next year.

Edith has been growing steadily in the tough Zimbabwean music scene and with her abilities and performances has managed to endear herself and her music to audiences around the country.

She has performed at all major festivals in the country including Hifa, Intwasa, Chimanimani Arts Festival, ZIFF and the now defunct Winter Jazz Festival. Internationally, Edith has performed in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and India.

Edith will play some of her favourite songs including Mukaranga, Chipo, Chipendani, Nhaka and Hautengwe. Certainly, revellers at the Zimbabwe-German Society are in for a thrilling two-hour non-stop performance by this talented bassist.
