Man up for killing burglar

HARARE - An Epworth man who allegedly beat to death a burglar he found in his home appeared in court yesterday.

Job Ndlovu, 47, of Glenwood, fatally assaulted the burglar after catching him removing property from his home.

Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe advised Ndlovu to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleged Ndlovu had gone too far and his actions were not justified. Ndlovu is being charged with murder.

The prosecutor said Ndlovu had repeatedly assaulted the burglar all over the body before he later escaped through the window, with the majority of the attack taking place outside the house when the possibility of danger was over.

Ndlovu allegedly raised alarm with his neighbours, who used more than reasonable force to kill the burglar.

The court heard that Ndlovu caught the burglar red-handed carrying his solar panel. He also realised that most of his property had been moved outside.

Ndlovu’s neighbours were alerted by the screams and noise emanating from the struggle and rushed to the scene.

When the neighbours arrived, the now deceased burglar was still in Ndlovu’s yard and they joined in assaulting him with unknown objects.

Ndlovu and his accomplices later escorted the critically injured burglar to the police, and was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died upon admission.

A post mortem established that the deceased person suffered head trauma and brain adema caused by the assaults.

In a civilized country one has the right to protect ones property and lives. Zimbabwe is a banana republic so only the whims of Zanu pf cadres prevail. The arrested man was obviously not a Zanu pf cadre like the prosecutor and the magistrate.
