Beauty and the Beast as Sere heads to Archies

HARARE - The old adage “Beauty and the Beast” will ring loud tonight as the newly-crowned Mr Ugly, Maison Sere graces the Miss Summer Archies beauty finals set for Archies Night Club tonight.

Still celebrating his win at the just-ended Mr Ugly, Sere will tonight attend to his first official assignment duty at the Miss Summer Archies where he will be the special guest and will hand over prizes to the club’s most beautiful lady.

But the irony is that an “ugly” guy will be among those cheering at these “beautiful” girls. And they say they are all an art forms.

A spokesperson for Devine Assignments, organisers of the Miss Summer Archies, DJ Sammy said tonight marks the end of a month-long search for the club’s queen.

“We have held two preliminaries in which we have been screening the contestants. We started with a bevy of 20 girls and as of now we are down to the last six. Hopefully today there will be a winner.”

DJ Sammy said they are ready to receive Mr Ugly as their special guest. “Mr Ugly is the talk of town and he is the most popular guy on social media and his presence will be a plus for our pageant. We know the girls are all beautiful and Mr Ugly is ugly, but such a combination will sure bring excitement to the show.”

The unemployed Sere, who was missing several teeth and dressed in torn overalls, beat off five other contestants for the $500 Mr Ugly prize. But William Masvinu, a three-time Mr Ugly winner who walked off with a $100 second prize this year, cried foul over his loss to Sere.

Devine Assignments director Biggie Chinoperekwei said they saw it fit to put together the Miss Summer Archies so as to promote the modelling industry.

“While we have several other national beauty contests such as Miss Zimbabwe, Miss Carnival and Miss Curvy, we decided to also promote beauty within the club circuit. We noticed that we have abundant talent and beautiful girls in our midst who enjoy clubbing and we are doing this just for them.

“We have since discovered that revellers enjoy these beauty pageants and we have also unearthed beautiful girls who can compete on a bigger stage.”

Chinoperekwei said Devine Assignments will work hand-in-hand with the newly-crowned Miss Archies Summer.

“We have a full programme for the new queen as she will be Archies’ brand ambassador. We will initiate humanitarian programmes for her — she will work with children and orphanage homes.”
