'Campaign against Chamisa escalates'

HARARE - Supporters of Kuwadzana legislator Nelson Chamisa say his rivals in the MDC are allegedly ratcheting up the pressure to get him isolated and banished from the party.

One of his allies who spoke to the Daily News yesterday said the latest indication that there was a campaign against Chamisa came at a recent meeting at the MDC’s Harare headquarters, Harvest House, where his opponents had allegedly attacked him and accused him of attempting to illegally wrest power from former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The insider also claimed that there was growing anger within the MDC about the party’s mooted coalition with the People First movement while it was seemingly unwilling “to take bold risks” to oust Zanu PF from power.

Another source claimed that the party’s vice president, Thokozani Khupe, had allegedly teamed up with secretary general Douglas Mwonzora, deputy national chairperson Morgen Komichi and national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe “to thwart any chances of Chamisa leading the party” by  portraying him as an impediment to the mooted coalition with People First.

But Khupe downplayed the rift between her and Chamisa when the Daily News contacted her yesterday.

“Leaders were elected at congress. Chamisa contested and lost to (Douglas) Mwonzora, but we appointed him to the national executive. So, why would we want him out now?” she asked rhetorically.

“It does not make sense, does it?  We talk a lot with Chamisa, even in Parliament. As the vice president of the party, I talk to all party members so we have a cordial relationship,” Khupe added.

Tsvangirai’ current mandate runs until 2018 and the MDC leader has not stifled leadership renewal debates within the party, but has instead called for internal discourse within party structures and not through the media.

The Daily News has also been told, including by people close to Chamisa,  that Tsvangirai has consistently rebuffed calls to either haul over the coals or expel the Kuwadzana legislator.

Media is good, but at times it fan unnecessary animosity among people and especially for selling their news. Chamisa is a junior man age and experience, its amazing that some people in their wildest minds would think that Chamisa may replace Tsvangirai or even Monzora. Elections proved where Chamisa stands and to be in the executive by default should have been warning shots to him to watch out and not to be too big for his size. I reminds of Mnangagwa after the Tsholothso declaration when he was cut to size and was given a ministry or rural and amenties, after that he realised that Mugabe rules in ZANU PF and Chamisa should learn one or two from that. He shoudl also remember that the current political situation in Zimbabwe is polarised on two forces, either you are ZANU PF and on Mugabe side or Tsvangirai side or you loose relevenacy befrore the dew is even dry in the morning. Welsmen Ncube, Authuar Mtambara, Biti and even Maduku. All these political heavy weights were either deceived by CIO to think that they are now popular. There has been a lot of infiltration in by CIO in the opposition and if Chamisa will not see that that all his marketing and legal competencies will be useless.

it is unfortunate that our media has become so hell bent on trying to mirror the chaotic scenes in Zanu Pf to the MDC. Chamisa has said it at his constituency feed back rally that MRT is the face of the MDC struggle and he will not fall into the same trap Ncube ,Biti and Mangoma fell into. So these imaginary or pecieved power struggles are only in the news room of the media not in MDC. Until you have sources with faces and names stop halusinating please. MDC T simunye

Ropafadzo - 26 November 2015

Tsvangirai will go down in history as the most useless and incompetent leader of the opposition. Anyone who now supports this man is in desperate need of psychological attention.

Hogwash - 26 November 2015

If its real and not media fiction, then Chamisa is very young to compete against closed log books, he has a very promising career as a lawyer to retire to when the push comes to shove, he has nothing to lose.

Mukanya - 26 November 2015

The so-called 'sources' are CIO AGENTS.

Jonathiel Moyowaonda - 26 November 2015

chamisa why do you bother staying in MDC-T wake up and get some notes from JUJU MALEMA we are ready to support youthfull people like you.............................whats the delay

NZIRAYEGAZA - 26 November 2015

It looks like we have problems in political parties. Everyone want to be president of Zimbabwe. The problem started somewhere.

Vincent Gwarazimba - 26 November 2015

@hogwash.If you don't support Tsvangirai why do you waste your time talking about him.Tsvangirai has the support and there is nothing you can do about it. People like you are a danger to democracy. If you hate him you everyone to do the same.sick mind.Tsvangirai is a human being of which its no crime to like him unless if you are a cio agent.

rex mutema - 26 November 2015

@ hogwash. please stop insulting our intelligence otherwise we are quite reasonable than you who is putting trust of your future in an old man.

mukanya - 26 November 2015

Hoping that MDC T will rule Zimbabwe, is like hoping that Helen Zile will rule SA...there is definately no light in Tsvangirai, whether Hogwash is CIO or not... its clear for everyone to see.

anesu - 26 November 2015

@ hogwash- don't reveal your intellectual dwarfness to the general public.

ad zoo - 26 November 2015

Well hog wash is just a foolish cio who was recruited into the cio organisation bcoz he was at Border Gezi camps where a lot of sewage stuff was pumped into his dull skull by zanu so please never worry about this moron . Hate Morgan or not he is the only leader in zim that makes Mugabe sleepless every day and the only leader that all normal people can bank on finish and klaa .He is liked across the nation by all tribes and that means he at least knows that zimbabwe has more than 8 tribes and all are zimbabweans and he has no history of killing fellow country people unlike zanu which is a tribal party and was formed to settle scores for tribal wars which were fought 180 years ago. No in modern days we do not want tribal leaders like Mugabe As for Chamisa i doubt if he is presidential material especially after failing terribly to organize the party .But the best thing for him is to come out smart on this issue refute it bcoz if he remains silent then that will mean the allegations are true and will have to be put down or quarantined from the party .

how do you know he was at boda gezi @diibulainyoka? you must also be coming from there. chamisa is the right person to takeover from save. time yavo save yakapfuura kare. there is no need to keep the young ones in limbo until they become tetegurus then ask them to lead. as young as he is he can do the job very well. at hog wash is right. mdc followers should have known by now that tsvangirai churu chakapinda nyoka kare kare. yava history yega yega.

zvirozviyedzwa - 26 November 2015

Nelson Chamisa is a self-opinionated buffoon. He pretends to be educated and intelligent. Remember how he sought favour with Joseph Chinotimba by giving him a lap-top computer. Chinos cannot even read or write, never mind knowing how to turn a computer on. Chamisa is a clown who needs to be trashed. . . .

Maria Dube the idiot - 27 November 2015

This MDC -T we have seen you Tswangirai, we would like to thank you for your efforts so far. However we have seen that you cant take us anywhere, you have reached tour ceiling. We people of Zimbabwe will go back to were we started, in ZAPU. We will put forward the leadership of Dumiso Dabengwa as a viable opposition and take it forward to where Zimbabwe should have been. I urge all Zimbabweans to now put any thoughts MDC, MDC- N; MDC 2000, MDC what what to be now history. Amandla ZAPU!!!!

ThamboLenyoka Hlaba Omzondayo - 27 November 2015

Nzirayegaza you are right. Us youths should learn to take over Zimbabwe and one sure way is to encourage tasted born leaders like Chamisa to start his own party. we will surely support you. Look at Julius Malema's EFF. Already they are in parly next time he wil be SA president.

Robsugar - 27 November 2015

Well any sane person who does not take zimbabwean politics on tribal lines but on merit will never compare Dumiso a very weak confused and tired to Morgan . .cio can try everything to confuse people here but the truth is it is very easy to see cio works like for example Ziroziyeza is a cio and Mangoma puppet . . .

as a former student i wldnt cry foul if he fired the tym he ws in Parliament during the inclusive gvt he ws a student bt we nvr heard the former minister fytng fo students in parliament nor dd he fyt fo the youths

ndudu - 27 November 2015

if indded it is true that chamisa has presidential ambitions then I think that should be respected inside MDC...that's politics and that's democracy...whose founding principles the MDC base on-DEMOCRACY....the MDC's constitution has been amended a couple of times to accommodate the interests of individuals...A AVERY WRONG PRECEDENCE IN A PROGESSIVE PARTY.
