Tout up for murder

HARARE - A commuter omnibus tout who reportedly murdered his colleague in cold blood over an undisclosed matter appeared in court yesterday.

Beaven Nemaramba, 23, was remanded in custody to December 1, when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe.

Mahwe advised Nemaramba to apply for bail at the High Court because he faces a third schedule offence.

The court heard that on November 15, in the afternoon at Fourth Street bus terminus Nemaramba was touting for passengers while the now deceased tout was also loading another kombi.

The deceased was in the company of two unidentified conductors who were also loading the same kombi.

According to the State, Nemaramba suddenly became violent and started shouting at the now deceased and his colleagues.

Nemaramba, the State alleged, accused other touts of spreading lies about him.

It is alleged that on the fateful day Nemaramba told his colleagues that he would deal with them.

The court heard that Nemaramba, specifically targeted the now deceased whom he was accusing of tarnishing his image by spreading falsehoods.

The court also heard that he was shouting saying, “Vanhu vemuno murank makati ndakaba maspeaker manje ndatouya ndakagutira imimi” (You people from this rank said that I stole some speakers for your own information I came prepared for you).

He then grabbed an iron bar and struck the now deceased on the forehead.

The now deceased bled profusely before he collapsed and died.
