Cairns to launch golf academy

HARARE - Zimbabwean professional golfer Ryan Cairns has decided to open a golf academy as a way of repaying the local junior system which helped nurture his talent.

The 31-year-old, who plays on the Sunshine Tour circuit in South Africa, made the announcement over the weekend on his Instagram page.

“After 10 years of playing this game professionally on each continent, across eight of the world’s Pro Tours, it’s no secret that I’ve had my share of highs and lows,” wrote Cairns.

“Each has come with its lesson though and some have been much harder to swallow than I’d ever expected growing up with this dream in mind.

“Those close to me know that I’ve been looking to give back in my home country for a while now and so for those reading this who live in #‎Zimbabwe, I’d like to now put back into a junior golf system which has given me so many unforgettable experiences over the years.

“In the new year, I will open the ‘Cairnzy Golf Academy’ to offer free advice on practice drills, swing tips, mentoring and also share stories from life on Tour.”

The Royal Harare Golf Club pro is currently number 77 on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit after raking in R130 894 in 21 tournament he took part in this year.
