Student helps bust exam paper syndicate

HARARE - An Ordinary Level student at Nyamashesha Secondary School in Mhondoro caught with leaked copies of the November English examination papers, assisted detectives to crack a syndicate that supplied him the paper.

Godfrey Nhari, 46, Victor Kabondo, 37, Enock Sithole, 21, and Juliet Zikonyo, 20, who all reside in Seke appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe charged with contravening section 35 (a) of the Zimbabwe Schools and Examination Council Act that prohibits gaining access to examination material before the exam.

Mahwe remanded the group out of custody to November 24.

As part of bail conditions, they were ordered to continue residing at present address and not to interfere with investigations as part of their bail conditions.

Prosecutor Idah Maromo had opposed bail on the basis that Nhari had a pending fraud case at the courts and further submitted that Kabondo would influence some of the witnesses since they were his students.

Maromo also submitted that the accused persons were likely to cause more papers to leak if released.

According to State papers, between October 20 and 27, Nhari used his connections which were not identified to access the November 2015 English Paper 2.

He reportedly took pictures of the paper using his phone before forwarding them to Kabondo — who is a private teacher — using the WhatsApp platform.

The court heard that detectives received information that Hwati was in possession of the paper before proceeding to Mhondoro where they arrested him.

Hwati then revealed Nhari and Kabondo as the people who had supplied him with the test papers.

Nhari then confessed before the cops that he had been given the papers by

Sunday Godfrey Nyamurehwa at University of Zimbabwe.

The two were subsequently arrested. They then implicated Sithole and Zikonyo.

In the 70s,80s,and 90s leaking of examinations wasn't heard of.Zanu Pf has failed our nation. The education system has gone to the dogs. They made a mistake when they introduced Zimsec, they should have continued with Cambridge.Education quality in Zimbabwe has dropped over the years because of the misrule of Zanu Pf.Ministers and senior Zanu Pf officials are being donated with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the UZ.This situation is quite embarrassing. UZ used to be a prestigious higher learning institution, but now every tom and dick from Zanu pf can get a degree there. It really pains me to see my country being run by this corrupt and oppressive party.Come 2018, the people of Zimbabwe should remove chihurumende ichi chehutororo.
