CAPS completely dominated DeMbare

HARARE - Dynamos can count themselves lucky after emerging from Rufaro Stadium with a point after they were outplayed by CAPS United during last Sunday’s Harare derby which ended 1-1.

The two teams settled for a point each after veteran forwards Takesure Chinyama and Leonard Tsipa were on target in the second period.

In statistics released by Prozone, a company that captures data for various European Clubs and is now in partnership with a local company In Play Sports Group, Makepekepe dominated all facets of play on Sunday.

Lloyd Chitembwe’s men enjoyed 58 percent of the ball possession whilst Dynamos’ only saw 42 percent of the ball.

A slick passing United produced 639 passes compared Dynamos’ 526 in a game that Chitembwe’s dominated the better of the exchanges.

In terms of pass success rate, United completed 73, 62 percent of their passes whilst Dynamos completed 69, 77.

Makepekepe were leading all the way even in terms of crosses attempted as they made 17 compared to DeMbare’s nine.

The Green machine also completed 79 turn overs whilst Dynamos only made 68.

While some might believe that stats are not everything in football the figures above give a detailed analysis of how CAPS United dominated DeMbare on Sunday.

Although there was initial scepticism, most successful football clubs have adopted the analysis provided by computer generated match reports which detail their players’ performances, a phenomenon which originated in baseball.

In October 2014, English Premiership side Arsenal invested over $3 million in buying United States-based firm StatDNA which is an expert in sports performance analytics.

“The company is an expert in the field of sports data performance analysis, which is a rapidly developing area and one that I, and others, believe will be critical to Arsenal’s competitive position,” the Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis said at the time.

“The insights produced by the company are widely used across our football operations – in scouting and talent identification, in game preparation, in post-match analysis and in gaining tactical insights.”

Here in Zimbabwe, ProZone and In Play Sports Group will be working with a number of Premier League clubs from next season providing them with details analytical match reports.

Prozone is one of the leading performance analysis company in the world and have a client base including clubs and associations such as West Ham, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, PSG, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, the Germany and American football federations.

As football is constantly revolving, coaches world over are now relying heavily on stats and data analysis to give their team an edge over opponents.

Dynamos foe (journalism) believes is the one built the adorable Dynamos football brand in its reporting system, hence seeking to destroy it. This is far away from the truth. Why you didn't include corner kicks in your statistics even the ball cleared from the line by CAPS defenders. Go back to history you will never destroy this football brand by fouls reporting. Star FM commentator shouted “it's a goal!!!!!!” on the match day when the CAPS striker's ball did not even hit any goal post.

My question to yu the journo is CAPS yakaitei ne better possession, yakaitei nema crosss ako. Yes analysis dziri bhoo only if they are gonna bring the results. in zimbabwe yo analysis will never work.
