I-Octane Zim concert confirmed

HARARE - Chipaz Promotions director Partson Chimbodza has confirmed that Jamaican star I-Octane will hold a maiden concert in Zimbabwe on December 12 at the City Sports Centre in Harare.

Chimbodza, who co-promoted Busy Signal’s highly successful show late last month, said the Jamaican hit-maker will share the stage with top Zimdancehall artistes who include Winky D, Sniper Storm, Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz, Dadza D, Hwindi President, Kinna, Lady Squanda, Judgement Yard, Merciless Zim, Chillspot Records, Chipaz Sound, Templeman and Garry B, Dj Cables, DJ Smily, Fyah Lynx and Leny Matherhorn.

“I-Octane will be performing in the country for the first time and all the necessary documents needed for the event are in order. We are now waiting for the big day,” said Chimbodza.

The 31-year-old internationally-acclaimed reggae and dancehall artiste started recording music commercially as a teenager when he released singles such as Oh Jah and Stepp a Seed.

He went on to drop chart-toppers such as  Straight From The Heart, Burn Dem Bridge, Crying To The Nation,  Badmind Dem A Pree,a collaboration with Bounty Killer produced by Buju Banton’s son Markus Myrie and Love Di Vibes among others.

Interestingly Winky D, who failed to perform at Busy Signal’s concert after his manager Jonathan Banda was manhandled by security personnel, has agreed to share the stage with I-Octane.

Chimbodza said the circumstances that led Winky D to stop performing at Busy Signal’s concert will not be repeated.

“This is a new deal. The unfortunate incident should not stop us from moving ahead,” he said.

On the other hand Banda, who was the victim of the overzealous security personnel at the Busy Signal gig, believes I-Octane’s concert will provide a platform for Winky D to repay his fans.

“We owe our fans big time and we are ready to deliver a top class act. However, I still strongly believe that as an industry there is need to revise the way we engage.

“I am not blaming anyone but there is need for tougher security measures that can protect everyone attending the show. A good time should be a good time, no one should be injured,” said Banda.
